Now, the only time that he ever showed interest in Hinata's background is when he was fighting Neji. Yet he was addressing Neji through the whole fight, only mentioning how Neji beat her. You would mention how someone you were familiar with got hurt, wouldn't you?! You would see a girl getting pushed around in the streets, by Buddha YOU'D better help her, too! Naruto would. Not out of any interest, but because it is the right thing to do. Now, in the essence of the latest chapters, not all confessions are final. Daisuke confessed to Risa Harada, he didn't get her, did he? Instead, he moved on. The same thing can and probably will happen here. Naruto acknowledges it or not, or Hinata dies before anything else can happen, or even he just rejects her since he doesn't know a thing about here. Seriously, he didn't even know she existed for most of his life; she was in the SAME CLASSROOM AS HIM.
Now, for why Sakura is his most prominent love-interest: Well, why not? They have been together, fighting with each other, having each other's backs for the longest time. Sakura has harbored feelings for Naruto that Yamato and Sai can clearly see. Sai, the SOCIAL RETARD, can see love between them. (Note: Retard, in this case, is not offensive term. We all know he's basically dead in the social-form.) And in recent chapters, Sakura relies on Naruto, knowing that he'll just get back up when knocked down. Hinata had little confidence in him, always yelling "NARUTO-KUN!!!11" when he got knocked back by TobiMadara, yet Sakura had full confidence in Naruto; and she was right. Out of the water, Naruto burst in a flame of confidence; ready to continue the fight.
Sakura knew that Naruto would come back, and fight against Pein. She believed in him, and called for him by name. She's had the most trust in him then anybody for the past few years, and I frankly see nothing but a pure, BS Harry Potter ending for NaruHina to work.
